Three friends,
one group chat.

It began with a storm. February 2021, one of those Toronto weekends where the streetcars stop and the only sensible plan is to stay in Leslieville and not move. Devon dropped a Bloons screenshot into the chat, Priya answered with a Words With Friends brag, and by Sunday we had a running list of what everyone was actually playing.

The list stuck around because the alternative was worse. Every "best mobile games" article we opened was a wall of buttons, half of them affiliate links, none of them written by someone who had played past level three. We figured we could at least be honest with each other. Then a few people outside the chat asked for the list, and here we are.

We are not reviewers by trade. Devon does logistics for a food distributor near the Portlands, Priya teaches, and Cole fixes bikes off Dundas West. The reviews get written on the couch and the streetcar, which is exactly where these games get played.

What each of us mains

Devon is the strategist. He will restart a Bloons TD 6 round four times to save a single life against a boss bloon, and he keeps the spreadsheet that decides what stays on the list. He plays on a Pixel 7a that has seen better days.

Priya handles words and puzzles. She reads patch notes for fun, has a four-year-old Words With Friends game running with her mum in Brampton, and clears a few Candy Crush levels every morning on the College streetcar. Her phone is a Galaxy A54.

Cole is the party and arcade half of the crew. He hosts the Thursday Among Us lobby, and he keeps an older Moto G charged purely to chase Temple Run 2 scores. He is loud about all of it.

The one rule

A game earns its place or it comes off. We would rather show you five picks we stand behind than pad the page to look busy. When something adds a nasty paywall or stops being fun on the commute, it is gone, and we say why.

Two honest limits worth stating plainly: we are all on Android, so there are no iPhone-only picks here, and we refresh this list every couple of weeks, not on launch day. If you want the method in full, read how we play.
